Summer by bike

Gargano is not only a destination for vacationers and nature lovers: for centuries it has seen countless pilgrims and devotees come to its slopes, attracted first of all by the cave of San Michele Arcangelo and, in more recent times, by the Sanctuary of San Pio da Pietrelcina in San Giovanni Rotondo. Gargano has thus been renamed “Sacred Mountain”; in fact, it identifies itself almost as a large natural sanctuary, offering naturalistic elements that are recurrent in the history of religions.

The Foresta Umbra nature reserve is a protected natural area located within the Gargano National Park. It extends in the central-eastern area of Gargano, at about 800 meters above sea level. The name "umbra" derives from the Latin: dark, shady; as it appears then, and partly today.

Trekking on the Gargano means touching this land with your own hands, perceiving its sounds and colours, smelling its smoke, tasting its flavours and aromas.
